A Cross Of St. George, Type I, C. 1816-1817, German-Manufactured For Prussian Troops, Rare consisting of a blue enamelled Romanian Cross with clusters of nine gilt rays in eac medalbed worn around lapel pin( ). Instituted in 1807. In silver, unmarked, German manufactured, as awarded to Prussian troops c. 1816 1817, an excellent example, measuring 43. 3 mm (w) x 48 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, exhibiting light contact and spotting overall, on an original period ribbon, very fine. Footnote: The Cross of St. George was instituted on February 13, 1807 and awarded for courage in battle, initially in one grade, and later, as of 1856, in four grades.
