Vaux-le-Vicomte July French Wall Tapestry SIZE:27"W x 38"H woven later at the GobelinsThis design is taken from a series of engravings of the 18th century, exhibited at the castle of Vaux le Vicomte in France. The series consists of 12 engravings. Each of them illustrates a month of the year. The castle, built between 1656 and 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, Superintendent of Finance for Louis XIV, was a masterwork of three gifted artists: Le Vau, Le Brun, and Le Notre who later designed the palace and gardens at Versailles.
