'Upkeep' was used during Operation Chastise in May 1943

So successful was the type it is used by a number of airforces around the world

but entered service in 1944 as the Tempest

Operating out of improvised bases this sub-sonic aircraft was used in the close support and reconnaissance role

with his first experience of combat over Dunkirk during the Battle of France

The Whittle, also known as the Pioneer or G. 40 was Britain's first jet engined aircraft created for the Air Ministry to test Frank Whittle's new jet propulsion technology. This experimental aircraft led to the development of the Meteor.
