it came--and comes--in a solid wood matte black painted with new cardboard back

It seems like quite an old one to me

Silver Painted Old STRING Tin (with twine inside) plate and a little along theI'm not quite sure when this tin was painted silver and labeled with tall thin hand painted white letters reading "string," but it looks as if a good many years ago, and certainly seems product of a great depression sensibility, when string saving became a habit. The paper label still stretched across the bottom of the tin suggests it's quite an old one, I believe a tobacco tin. Found in Maine, with twine and a pencil inside, as seems just right. A
