SPIES of New York was a well known distributor and Importer of many types of firearms, beginning in 1783 and operating until about 1870. This is a brass framed Tinder Lighter, complete with its original bipod stand, measuring just over 5" in length and just over 4" in height. These were used as fire lighters by the flint striking a spark on the frizzen, which ignited the "tinder" in the trough or pan below.
