It is tenebrescent, meaning that it possesses the fascinating ability to change color when it is exposed to sunlight. Under ultraviolent radiation, it has a crimson fluorescence, and it is a non radioactive substance. Tugtupite is considered to be a stone of unconditional love. In the creation myth of the first peoples of Greenland, it is attributed to Tutu, or the reindeer girl. It is said
