Corporal Bateman was born on August 20, 1876 in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He lived in Morris Run, Pennsylvania. He mustered into service as a Private in Company C on May 7, 1898, at Camp Richards in Cheyenne, Wyoming; promoted to Corporal at an unknown date. He mustered out of service with
