This fabulous thing is a carved wood whistle in the shape of a bird

perhaps the heads of a pair of griffin

The contents are in excellent condition

but here it is the whole scene (set at the Saint-Cloud race track just outside of Paris)

I just love the rendering of all of these very particular surgical tools together, and especially that image near center of the elevator in use, set upon a titled head!
