It is possible this was once part of a larger construction or lost a bit at the rear of the base

or maybe holding soap to bring a zen feeling to the bath

elevating it a bit from the surface on which it sits

or fill them with smooth black rocks and set them somewhere I'd see them all the time

with no loss of layers

I really love that disruption to what would otherwise be the very elegant line of the long neck, and how the form of the bulge pretty much exactly echoes the form of the body. I also really like that the piece is done in what reads in person as black soapstone, though I do think it is really a very very dark green,
