Very good vintage condition--I'd guess it dates from the 1930s or 40s--with a nice warm patina

but the kindly looking donkey upon which he is perched seems much more interested in his little dog friend than in turning around to help

) And I believe it is a pretty old carving

Apothecary Bottle with Luisa Wells' Hand-drawn Bird and Note tabletop furniture 7 3/16" l x 6"I am perpetually in search of drawings like this bird, and all the better that this one was drawn then affixed to this French apothecary bottle. It is signed by a Luisa Wells, with a handwritten note above that is a bit hard to read, but appears to be addressed to a Master Gaines White (or similar), who Luisa writes "is a fine scholar and learns well." And so I believe Luisa was likely Master Gaines' tutor, and that she likely travelled to France, and
