Hand-colored Reward of Merits with Birds vintage teaching with our very longing snow-manI would like to live in a world where handing out lovely rewards of merit for punctuality and good conduct and the like were de rigueur and so I try to to pick up particularly nice examples when I come across them! I like these two as a pair for the array of birds represented an owl and what looks to me like some bird of a prey on the top one, and an eagle on the other. Both hand colored, both dating to the mid 19th c I believe, and both presented
