I purchased this (these!) from a favorite dealer in my neck of the woods, from whom I have bought many wonderful and wonderfully tender things. I might guess these little hand drawn watercolor animals each standing on a small batch of green but for the ostrich, who got a bit of black were originally made to be stood up and moved around, like antique handmade paper toy soldiers that I've had a handful of, with folded paper tabs
