Splitting to the binding visible at the very center but stable and light wear to back cover

and then with this striped string threaded and wound around one end of the slide lid--seeming perhaps a make do repair to shore up a split

I love a naive bird watercolor, and a watercolor of a rose too, even better a fluttering hummingbird at a yellow rose. 5 1 8" x 4 3 8" and in very good condition. C. 1870s 80s I believe.
