Additional marks of interest include inspectors' and proof marks around the breech end of the barrel:  V over a P over a very faint eagle's head

These were produced in "field blue" earlier in the war

The underside of the rim is stamped R / A 95

numbered 1-4 and all with "Crown over V" Proof marks
