This lovely carbine began life as a late production (1898) Krag M1896 Rifle, the standard U. S. Long arm of the time. It was however then custom converted to a 24" barrel with a ramp fore sight and tall rear Krag Carbine ladder sight. It even has crosshatching on the butt plate to keep it more steady on the shoulder. This was done very possibly as the request of a wealthy Officer who saw service in the Spanish
