1921 Print Japanese Sengoku Period Courtly Woman Costume Kuge Juni Hitoe XGDB5 XGAB5 Light wrinkling in bottom rightThis is an original 1921 black and white halftone print of a portrait of Mrs. Charles Burnett wearing a 15th Century Japanese Court costume. This sengoku period garb supposedly consisted of twelve layers called the Juni hitoe, in reality it was more along the lines of eight. It was mainly layers of robes and kimono more appropriately called karaginu mo. Her teeth would be blacked out and her face painted over with white makeup with small, designed
